Suspect in Olympia stabbing still at large
Olympia police are asking for information about an assault that occurred Wednesday on the Olympia Woodland Trail near Boulevard Road Southeast.
Officers responded to the scene about 3:10 p.m. after a 28-year-old victim used a cellphone to report he had been stabbed multiple times in the torso, according to the Olympia Police Department. He said he was sitting beside the trail after a long walk when a man approached and began stabbing him.
A passing nurse administered aid until medics arrived.
The victim told police he didn’t know his attacker, and the stabbing was unprovoked, officials said.
He described the attacker as a white male with blond hair and blue eyes. The attacker had patchy facial hair and obvious acne scars on his cheeks. He wore a blue jacket, red sweatshirt and blue jeans.
The man used a large kitchen knife in the attack, the victim reported.
The victim was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital and is expected to recover, according to Olympia police.
Olympia and Lacey police and Thurston County Sheriff’s deputies searched the Woodland Trail system, adjoining trails and nearby streets. A K-9 unit aided in the search, but the attacker wasn’t found.
Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call Olympia Police Department detectives at 360-753-8300.
