Woman injured in Interstate 5 wreck in Federal Way; man arrested
A 26-year-old Federal Way woman was seriously injured in a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 on Monday night that sent four people to area hospitals, according to the Washington State Patrol.
A 34-year-old Seattle man was driving at a high rate of speed on the right shoulder of I-5 near the 320th Street exit in Federal Way and collided with the woman’s vehicle when he tried to re-enter the right lane, a WSP news release said. The man, who troopers believe was impaired by drugs, was booked on vehicular assault charges. He has outstanding felony warrants for identity theft in Seattle and escaping from community custody in Olympia.
The woman suffered broken bones and was transported in critical condition to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to the release, where she was upgraded to serious condition.
Traffic backed up for miles behind the collision, which closed the freeway for nearly two hours.
Anyone with information about the wreck is asked to contact Det. Russ Haake at russ.haake@wsp.wa.gov or 425-401-7717.
