Lacey man accused of shooting friend’s finger over video game

Bail has been set at $25,000 for a Lacey man accused of shooting another man’s finger during an argument over a video game.

Donovan L. Houston, 33, appeared Monday in Thurston County Superior Court on charges of first-degree assault while armed with a firearm and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. Arraignment was set for April 19.

Court documents give the following account:

Houston and two brothers had been drinking at an Olympia home Sunday (April 3) when an argument broke out about a video game. One of the men told police that Houston had pointed a Glock firearm at his head for about 30 seconds while he held up his hands in surrender.

The man attempted to deflect the weapon from Houston. However, the gun fired and a bullet hit one of the man’s fingers. The brothers fled the house and Houston followed, asking them not to call police.

Houston turned himself in later that night at the Nisqually jail and was taken into custody by Lacey police. Houston was prohibited from possessing a firearm because of a domestic violence no-contact order that was issued in January.
