Lane, ramp closures set for Interstate 5 through Tacoma this week

There are more lane and ramp closures scheduled this week on Interstate 5 through Tacoma as construction workers continue to replace pavement and widen the freeway in anticipation of HOV lanes.

The fun starts Tuesday when up to three lanes of northbound Interstate 5 between South L Street and the Puyallup River Bridge will close about 8 p.m. and not re-open until 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Up to three northbound lanes in the same area will close between 8 p.m. Wednesday and 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

On Thursday, all lanes of northbound I-5 near South 38th Street will close at 11:59 p.m. and reopen at 4:30 a.m. Friday. Drivers will be routed onto the northbound collector-distributor and then detoured via either state Route 7 or Interstate 705 during the closure.

On Saturday, all lanes of northbound I-5 near South 38th Street will close from 1 to 4 a.m. Drivers will be routed onto the northbound collector-distributor and then detoured via either Route 7 or I-705.

Here’s a rundown on ramp closures:

Tuesday

▪ The exit from southbound I-5 to City Center will close at 10 p.m. and reopen at 6 a.m. Wednesday.

▪ The on-ramp from southbound Route 167 to southbound I-5 will close at 10 p.m. and reopen at 6 a.m. Wednesday.

▪ The Portland Avenue on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close at 10 p.m. and reopen at 4 a.m. Wednesday.

▪ The on-ramp from East 28th Street to northbound I-5 will close at 11 p.m. and reopen at 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Wednesday

▪ The exit from southbound I-5 to westbound Route 16 and South 38th Street will close at 10 p.m. and re-open at 6 a.m. Thursday. Drivers will be detoured via the 1-5/South 56th Street interchange.

▪ The on-ramps from Pacific Avenue and southbound I-705 to southbound I-5 will close at 10 p.m. and re-open at 6 a.m. Thursday.

▪ The exit from the northbound I-5 collector-distributor to northbound I-705 will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Thursday.

▪ The exit from northbound I-5 to Port of Tacoma Road will close at 11 p.m. and reopen at 4 a.m. Thursday.

▪ The on-ramp from East 28th Street to northbound I-5 will close at 11 p.m. and reopen at 4 a.m. Thursday.

Thursday

▪ The on-ramp from Port of Tacoma Road to northbound I-5 will close from 12:01 a.m. to 4 a.m.

▪ The exit from the northbound I-5 collector-distributor to northbound I-705 will close at 11:59 p.m. and reopen at 4 a.m. Friday.
