Intruder sneaks up on woman in her Olympia apartment

An Olympia woman in her apartment looked up from her computer Wednesday morning to see an intruder standing behind her.

The incident happened at 5:30 a.m. in an apartment in the 700 block of 13th Avenue Southeast. Colleen Wasner had let her cat out and left a sliding door unlocked, she said.

“I think he wanted to strangle me, or kill me,” Wasner said. She said the man was white, about 5 foot 7 and 170 pounds, with short, reddish brown hair. He was standing with his arms outstretched, she said.

She said she shouted and started throwing whatever she could get her hands on.

“I immediately started throwing toys,” she said.

The man did not say anything or touch her, she said. He fled and has not been apprehended, according to Olympia Police spokesman Lt. Paul Lower.

Police don’t have anyleads, Lower said, adding that information from the public could help solve the case. Anyone with information can call police at 360-753-8300.

“The spirit of God or something let me know to turn around,” Wasner said.
