The first two suspects in a July 13 Tumwater shooting have been booked into the Thurston County jail, according to the Tumwater Police Department.

Three suspects had been under police supervision at Harborview Medical Center and Providence St. Peter Hospital since the shooting. The first suspect, Larico D. Rodney, 29, was released from Harborview on Monday and transported to the jail, where he is being held on $2 million bail.

Rodney appeared before Thurston County Superior Court Judge Erik Price on Tuesday, and the judge found probable cause for three felony charges: first-degree assault while armed with a deadly weapon, first-degree burglary while armed with a deadly weapon, and first-degree robbery while armed with a deadly weapon.

Both the assault and robbery charges are strike offenses.

A second suspect, a 42-year-old man, was released from Providence St. Peter Hospital and booked into the jail Thursday afternoon. He could face the same charges as Rodney, and he is scheduled to appear in court Friday afternoon (July 22). The Olympian doesn’t release the names of suspects until they have appeared in court.

A third male suspect is under police supervision at Harborview Medical Center, Sgt. Jen Kolb said.

Four people were shot July 13, and all survived. Three of the men shot are suspects in the case, and one is a resident of the home.

According to court documents, Rodney has at least 20 prior criminal convictions. The first was in 2001, and the most recent was in June 2015. Charges include second- degree robbery, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, solicitation, theft and assault.

Court documents show that accounts of the July 13 shootings given by the suspects and victims vary:

A male resident at 227 Gerth St. SW in Tumwater called 911 early July 13 and reported three men had broken into the home. One of the suspects had taken his AR-15 assault rifle, he said. He also said he had been shot in the abdomen.

When police arrived at the home, seven people came out of the home — three of whom had been shot. One of the injured men identified himself as the 911 caller, and another identified himself as Rodney.

The four victims told police they awoke to the sounds of people inside the home, according to court documents. One of the residents said he awoke to three men binding his hands and covering his mouth with duct tape. He was then dragged to the bedroom of a second male victim.

That victim said a man had entered his room holding the rifle, which he recognized as belonging to the first victim. The man with the rifle ordered him to lie on the ground, and asked for the combination to his safe. The man removed about $3,000, according to court documents.

The first victim was able to remove the duct tape and call 911. As he tried to run back to his bedroom, one of the suspects shot him in the abdomen.

When police interviewed Rodney, he said he needed money to find a new place to live. The third suspect, the one now at Harborview, called him and said he knew a place in Tumwater with a lot of marijuana and money, according to court documents.

The second suspect’s girlfriend drove them to Tumwater. Rodney said he brought duct tape into the house, and the other two suspects brought handguns. The three men went to the downstairs bedrooms, attempted to tape up a man, and removed money from a safe.

Rodney said the second suspect then went upstairs, and he heard gunshots. Rodney and the other suspect went upstairs, and the third suspect pointed his gun at a woman. Then he and the third suspect were both shot, according to court documents.

Rodney told police that he thought it was going to be a simple breaking and entering.

“I’m guilty so I told you the truth. I want to do the right thing,” he said, according to court documents.
