Elementary school in Lacey placed under lockdown

Evergreen Forest Elementary School in Lacey went into lockdown for about an hour Tuesday morning after staff reported hearing what sounded like gunshots in a nearby neighborhood, according to the North Thurston Public Schools.

The information was posted on the district’s Facebook page about 9:45 a.m. School district officials told parents not to go to the school to pick up their children, but to watch the district’s social media sites for updates.

“We have a good system in place and appreciate your cooperation,” the post stated.

Lt. John Price with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said deputies checked in the area but didn’t see any problems. But he said deputies stayed in the area as a precaution. He said he believes the report might have been because of heightened awareness following Monday’s shooting at North Thurston High School.

The lockdown was lifted about an hour later.
