Thurston County students named semi-finalists in National Merit program

The National Merit Scholarship Program has released the names of nearly 16,000 semifinalists, and four South Sound students made the list.

Fewer than 1 percent of seniors in the United States qualified for the honor with their high scores on the 2014 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Next, they’ll compete for one of 2,500 scholarships awarded by the nonprofit organization next spring. Finalists also are eligible to compete for about 3,900 college-sponsored awards that are associated with the program.

According to the National Merit Scholarship Program, local semi-finalists are:

▪ Kylie Charney-Harrington of Timberline High School.

▪ Anya Dickinson-Cove of Olympia High School.

▪ Deirdre Francks of Olympia High School.

▪ Quinn Johnson of Olympia High School.
