School-shooting hero to speak at forum

North Thurston High School teacher Brady Olson is guest speaker at the “Compassion is Contagious” community forum 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at River Ridge High School, 350 River Ridge Drive SE, Lacey.

The free event, which is cosponsored by the city of Lacey and North Thurston Public Schools, is open to the public. It includes speakers and roundtable discussions about how to celebrate and expand compassionate acts in the community.

Olson tackled and restrained a student who fired a gun at North Thurston High in April. Olson has received numerous awards and special recognition for the act.
