Up-to-the-minute road conditions to know before you travel

The Olympian is keeping a running list of road conditions in the region ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday Thursday. Be aware of these developments before you hit the road:

Interstate 5 closed in southern Oregon due to snow

The Seattle Times reported Wednesday morning that I-5 was closed from south of Ashland, Oregon, to the California border “due to blizzard-like conditions.”

Other related closures, according to the Times report: Oregon Route 138 is closed 25 miles west of the intersection with North Umpqua Highway, and Oregon Route 62 is closed 19 miles west of Crater Lake National Park.

WSDOT: Be prepared for unexpected delays and closures on mountain passes

Travelers should be ready for unexpected delays and closures on mountain passes due to snow and high winds, WSDOT warned in a tweet Wednesday morning. The agency recommends checking pass conditions at wsdot.com/traffic/passes/ before taking off.

Blewett Pass was closed Wednesday morning, according to WSDOT. It reopened just before 10 a.m., with chains required.
