A rotting tree fell onto a car exiting I-5 in Olympia Thursday night

A tree adjacent to southbound Interstate 5 fell directly on top of a car as it exited the freeway in Olympia Thursday night, Washington State Patrol says.

The driver was not injured when the tree fell about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Ryan Burke, and was able to drive the Volkswagen Passat from the scene.

Burke said the inside of the tree had visibly rotted.

The ramp to exit 105 — the State Capital/Port of Olympia exit — was temporarily closed for clean-up, Burke said.
