Lacey drivers: Expect northbound delays on Marvin Road overpass starting Thursday evening
Construction on the Marvin Road overpass at Interstate 5 in Lacey is entering its next phase, and new restrictions are expected to cause delays for drivers headed northbound.
Work on a “diverging diamond interchange,” meant to improve traffic flow and decrease the potential for crashes, began in October 2018.
The evening of Thursday, July 9, construction crews plan to relocate the current work zone, the Washington State Department of Transportation says. The move will free up southbound traffic and introduce lane restrictions northbound.
The northbound right lane will be open for through traffic, while the left will be a left-turn only lane to enter southbound I-5, according to WSDOT.
The change, which is expected to cause backups, could last up to 24 days.
WSDOT recommends drivers use alternate routes, plan to spend extra time on the road, travel early or late in the day, and reschedule optional trips.
