Around-the-clock Marvin Road overpass closure planned for this weekend
The Marvin Road overpass is slated to be closed around-the-clock this weekend, starting Friday evening. So, plan for delays and detours if you’re traveling in that area of Lacey.
But there’s also good news: It’s the last total closure of the overpass planned for the project that’s transforming it into the state’s first diverging diamond interchange.
The overpass and all ramps associated with it will be closed starting at 8 p.m. Friday through 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, according to Washington State Department of Transportation. There will be marked detour routes.
During the most recent weekend closure, crews converted the overpass into the new type of interchange, which allows drivers to turn left onto the highway without stopping and is intended to ease congestion and reduce the chance for crashes.
During this weekend’s closure, crews will do final paving and install lane markings, according to a tweet from the department.
After the closure, remaining work includes installing permanent traffic signals, completing the installation of sidewalks and permanent lane markings, and landscaping, according to WSDOT spokesperson Doug Adamson.
The department expects all daytime closures of the overpass to wrap up by the middle of October. All work is expected to be complete in about two months, according to Adamson.
“We’re truly thankful for everyone’s patience as we work to complete this project,” Adamson wrote in an email to The Olympian.
