A 30-year-old Shelton woman was injured in an early Friday morning crash on southbound Interstate 5 near Carpenter Road.

A 33-year-old Happy Valley, Oregon, man was driving his 2018 Acura MDX south on I-5 at a high speed about 3 a.m. Friday, a Washington State Trooper memo says, when he encountered the Shelton woman driving significantly slower in the same lane. The Oregon man failed to slow and hit the rear of the Shelton woman’s 2009 Chevrolet Malibu.

The Shelton woman was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital for treatment; the Oregon man, who was not injured, could face vehicular assault charges, according to WSP. Troopers believe alcohol or drugs were involved.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Both cars were totaled, WSP says.
