Maintenance work will slow traffic Wednesday on I-5 in Olympia, WSDOT says

The Washington State Department of Transportation has issued a travel advisory for work planned for Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the junction between Interstate 5 and U.S. Highway 101.

The advisory says maintenance teams will be doing drainage work, guardrail repair and more along the southbound exit ramp from the freeway to 101 during daytime hours. Traffic will likely be more congested than usual.

From 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the southbound right exit lane will be closed between the two major roads, and the right lane of 101 will be closed from the I-5 merge to the Cooper Point Road exit.

The work is weather dependent and could be rescheduled, but clear skies are in the forecast this week.

Crews have been working during daytime hours to ensure their safety. Workers are more likely to not be seen and drivers less aware of construction zones and markings at night.
