Temporary I-5 closures to come to south Thurston County for collision damage cleanup

Interstate 5 travelers should add some extra time to their planned trips later this week if they’re going through Thurston County.

The Washington State Department of Transportation announced Monday, Dec. 12, that plans to replace barriers on portions of I-5 will shut down the freeway temporarily.

According to a WSDOT news release, the interstate between Olympia and Grand Mound will see temporary lane closures Thursday, Dec. 15, and Tuesday, Dec. 20, while crews replace barriers damaged during recent collisions.

Maytown will have closures 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 15 between mileposts 95.5 and 97.5, going both directions just north of the Maytown exit. Expect traffic to be heavily congested, especially southbound.

Tumwater will see closures from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 20. The right lane of northbound I-5 near Trosper Road will be closed between mileposts 103 and 104. The work was originally scheduled for Dec. 14.
