A representative with Lacey Fire District 3 said the tree fell in the area near the train tracks, around the junction of 510, Old Pacific Highway and Meridian Road Southeast.

Washington State Patrol trooper John Dattilo confirmed the tree had been removed from the road by 10:30 a.m. He said WSP was unsure how the tree fell, but the South Sound region experienced heavy winds that morning that knocked out power to several areas.

Lacey fire units were the first to respond to the incident, but they were unable to do much because the tree had hit some power lines. They had to wait until Puget Sound Energy crews arrived on scene, and at that point the situation was handed over to WSP. The Washington State Department of Transportation was in charge of removing the tree.
