Drivers should expect traffic slowdowns on Interstate 5 between Tumwater and Maytown on Thursday.

Maintenance crews plan to close the left lane on both directions of Interstate 5 in Thurston County from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. that day, according to Washington State Department of Transportation.

WSDOT says the closures will occur at multiple locations, one section at a time. Crews aim to realign parts of the interstate median barrier that have been displaced by recent crashes.

Work will start from the southbound direction at milepost 104 and then transition to the northbound direction, per WSDOT.

A work zone will be in effect during the daytime rather than nighttime for safety reasons. WSDOT says people drive more safely and signage is more easily visible during daylight hours.

Drivers can check a real-time traffic map via the WSDOT website or mobile app. Updates will also be provided on the WSDOT Twitter account.
