Extended lane closures and delays through Tumwater are expected from now through March 3 as construction on the city’s Capitol Boulevard and Trosper Road intersection continues.

According to a news release from the state Department of Transportation, crews will continue underground utility installation work over the next few weeks. Traffic will be reduced at the intersection to one lane in each direction during the daytime, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. At night, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., traffic will be reduced to an alternating single lane controlled by a flagger.

Installing utilities underground involves sawing, removing pavement, demolishing concrete, excavating and trenching, as well as sanitary sewer installation.

Drivers are being asked to plan around the delays and congestion, and to drive slowly through work zones. The schedule for construction is subject to change due to weather, equipment and project delays, according to the news release.
