Fallen utility pole prompts Old Highway 99 closure Wednesday morning
A fallen utility pole prompted Thurston County officials to close a significant portion of Old Highway 99 Southeast early Wednesday morning.
Officials closed the roadway between McCorkle Road Southeast and Rich Road around midnight, according to a county website. The county indicated the closure would affect the morning commute.
A utility crew was on site working to repair the downed pole. Puget Sound Energy reported a large outage in the area that extended past Offutt Lake Wednesday morning.
About 100 customers were impacted by the outage as of 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to a PSE outage map.
The company estimated power would be restored by around 10 a.m. The cause of the outage remained under investigation.
The National Weather Service reported light precipitation continued to move through parts of south Puget Sound Wednesday morning.
With temperatures between 31-35 degrees, NWS cautioned that roadways may be slick. The NWS advised drivers to plan extra time for their commutes.
