The public can comment on plans to build a new roundabout on State Route 507 near Yelm through March 24.

The Washington State Department of Transportation announced the feedback period in a Thursday news release. The proposed single-lane roundabout would replace a “T” intersection on SR 507 at Vail Road Southeast.

A roundabout should reduce potential crashes and keep traffic flowing at the intersection, according to WSDOT. The department decided on the proposal after conducting a routine review of the rural intersection.

WSDOT says the project will cost about $2-3 million. Funding for the project will come through the Highway Safety Improvement Program, a federal-aid program.

Planners started considering the project in November and pre-design phase began in January. A final recommendation will follow the current outreach phase. If the project goes ahead, WSDOT estimates construction may occur in early 2026.

The public can learn more about the proposal and submit feedback by visiting a project website at Engage.wsdot.wa.gov/sr-507-vail-road-roundabout/.

Anyone who lacks internet access can visit the website by going to any Timberland Regional Library. The Yelm Timberland Library is located at 210 Prairie Park Street.
