A 22-year-old man from Beaverton, Oregon died Wednesday in a two vehicle collision on I-5 north of 93rd Avenue Southwest in Thurston County.

The collision occurred about 12:11 a.m. south of Tumwater Boulevard, according to a press memo from Washington State Patrol. The incident blocked traffic for six hours and thirty minutes early Wednesday morning.

The Beaverton man reportedly traveled north in a Honda Civic in lane two of three. Trooper Robert Reyer said the Honda struck a disabled semi-truck, and both vehicles came to a rest in a ditch on the right side of the roadway.

The driver of the semi-truck, a 30-year-old Fresno man, did not suffer any injuries, according to the memo. The Fresno man reportedly wore a seat belt while the Beaverton man did not.

The Honda and the semi-truck were totaled in the collision, per the memo.

State Patrol indicated they were investigating the cause of the collision. It’s still unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved, per the memo.
