Deschutes Parkway in Olympia will be closed on Thursday and Friday for road work, according to the Washington state Department of Transportation.

The closures will be in effect from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. However, the state cautions that schedule may change depending on the weather.

The closures will limit vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic along the west side of Capitol Lake. Barriers will be in place on the roadway near the intersection of Olympic Street and Fifth Avenue as well as north of the Interstate 5 on-ramp near the Crosby House Museum. The on-ramp should remain accessible, WSDOT says.

Another traffic barrier will be set up on Lakeridge Drive Southwest across from Building 1 of the Thurston County Courthouse Complex. Pedestrians at Marathon Park also will be blocked at the eastern approach of the walkway.

Maintenance crews will be repainting street lines, repairing streetlights and inspecting drains as well as improving the landscaping along the road to improve safety and visibility along the roadway, according to the state.
