Road work to slow I-5 traffic in south Thurston County today and Saturday
Travelers on Interstate 5 in south Thurston County can expect road work slowdowns today and Saturday.
Work crews will be on the highway between Grand Mound and Maytown from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday, according to a news release from the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Litter removal and sweeping activities will affect the left lane in both directions, according to WSDOT. Workers will start on the northbound side and later shift to the southbound side.
Drivers are advised to expect traffic congestion and occasional left lane closures as they approach the work zone, according to the news release.
WSDOT scheduled the road work between morning and afternoon rush hours to ensure worker safety. The release says driver behavior is generally safer then and work zone signs are more easily seen at that time.
WSDOT advises travelers to slow down in work zones, pay attention to traffic and be kind to workers on the roadway.
The public can see real-time traffic information on the WSDOT statewide travel map, the WSDOT app and WSDOT regional Twitter account.
