Those who commute to and through downtown Olympia can expect multiple road closures starting Friday.

Closures for Capital Lakefair, the annual festival based at Heritage Park, will begin Friday and last through July 17, although the festival doesn’t start until Wednesday, July 12, according to a news release from Washington State Department of Enterprise Services. Over 200,000 people are expected to attend Lakefair.

The first closure will affect Water Street, which is runs alongside the park near the restrooms and Octapas Café. This closure will last until July 17, when organizers plan to clean up the area, according to the news release.

Deschutes Parkway between Lakeridge and Fifth Avenue will be closed from 1 -10 p.m. July 14 and from noon to 10 p.m. July 15 as well.

Separately, a section of Legion Way Southeast between Jefferson and Cherry streets will be closed from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, according to a city traffic alert.

Construction crews will reportedly pour concrete for the apartment building that’s being constructed in the 500 block of Legion Way. Signage will point to detours, but the city advises drivers to avoid the area if they can.
