This I-5 ramp in Lacey will be closed starting Thursday. Here’s why

There will be several overnight ramp and lane closures on Martin Way on Olympia’s east side this month. It’s the next step in Intercity Transit’s Martin Way Park & Ride Direct Access Project.

An Interstate-5 ramp in Lacey will be closed on Thursday and Friday to make way for improvements at a nearby transit area.

A northbound on-ramp at Martin Way and near College Street will be closed 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both days, according to an Intercity Transit news release. Drivers can expect traffic control measures and detours in the area.

Intercity Transit says the closure is needed so construction crews can work on the ramp.

Southbound access to Interstate 5 should not be affected by the construction or closure.

Those who ride Olympia Express, Route 620, can expect “slight schedule delays” due to the closure as well, per the release. More information on the route can be found on the Intercity Transit website.

The closure is part of a larger project to improve the Martin Way Park and Ride, a parking lot with access to buses. This effort should enhance safety and speed up service at the parking lot, according to the project’s webpage.

Among the improvements is a “bus only” direct access from the northbound I-5 on-ramp into the parking lot, a new bus stop next to the on-ramp and general facility updates, per the webpage.

Intercity Transit says the project began in March and construction should be completed later this fall.
