This I-5 on-ramp in Tumwater will be closed through April. Here’s what to expect
Drivers cannot take the northbound Interstate 5 on-ramp from westbound Trosper Road Southwest in Tumwater until April.
The on-ramp closed at exit 102 on Tuesday. The closure will allow work crews to construct the northern half of a new roundabout on Trosper Road, according to a news release from the City of Tumwater.
Drivers can expect to see a signed detour directing them to access northbound I-5 at Tumwater Boulevard for the duration of the closure. Work crews have reportedly shifted lanes to maintain two-way traffic on Trosper Road, and pedestrians should still be able to access Trosper Road along its southside.
This construction is part of the Capitol Boulevard Corridor Project, a $12.5 million effort to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety along Trosper Road from the I-5 overpass to Capitol Boulevard and the northbound I-5 off- and on-ramps.
The current closure will last until April 1. Crews will then focus on building a new roundabout on Capitol Boulevard through June, according to the city’s timeline. The city expects to complete the entire project by August.
Work crews previously built a new street called Sixth Avenue that connected Lee Street to a new roundabout. The final configuration will feature three new roundabouts in total.
More information about the project can be found on the city’s website.
