Nighttime roadwork on I-5 to delay traffic in both directions in south county through Aug. 9
Travelers on Interstate 5 can expect nighttime traffic delays between Olympia and Grand Mount from Aug. 2 to Aug. 9.
Contractor crews with the Washington State Department of Transportation will work on small sections of I-5 in both northbound and southbound directions. I-5 will be reduced to a single lane northbound between mileposts 85.5 and 89 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and southbound from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night.
Ramps at I-5 and Old Highway 99 will also be closed temporarily.
WSDOT recommends travelers slow down and drive the reduced work-zone speed limits; pay attention to other travelers and workers directing traffic; and leave early or take alternate routes to avoid delays.
The work will help preserve the highway surface and reduce roadway maintenance, according to a WSDOT travel advisory. But the work may be rescheduled depending on the weather.
Real-time traffic information is available on the WSDOT app and statewide travel map.
