Nighttime closures coming to I-5 lanes and ramps north of Thurston County this week
Drivers should prepare for nighttime slowdowns, congestion and construction on I-5 between Joint Base Lewis McChord and DuPont this week.
Night work is planned for the beginning of October for the I-5 Mounts Road to Steilacoom-DuPont Road Corridor Improvements project, according to a news release from the Washington state Department of Transportation.
Lane and ramp closures on southbound I-5 in Lakewood will last from Sept. 30 to Oct. 3.
Lane closures near Thorne Lane/Berkeley Street will begin at 8 p.m. Monday. I-5 will be reduced to one lane by 9:30 p.m. All lanes will be reopened by 6 a.m. the following day.
The southbound I-5 exit to Berkeley Street will be closed from 8 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday.
Northbound I-5 from Mounts Road to JBLM will have single lane closures starting at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Double lane closures will begin at 10:30 p.m. All lanes will be reopened by 4:30 a.m. each following day.
According to the release, crews will close I-5 exits to Berkeley Street, Mounts Road, Center Drive, Steilacoom-DuPont Road, and 41st Division Drive every night from Monday through Friday. They will close no earlier than 7 p.m. and reopen the next day by 4:30 a.m.
There will be no more than two ramps closed at a time, according to the release. Signs have been posted around the construction to help detour drivers.
