Headed south on Sunday and early next week? Expect I-5 lane closures, WSDOT says
Drivers headed to Lewis County should plan for delays because of Interstate 5 lane closures scheduled Sunday through Wednesday, Feb. 23-26, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The freeway shutdown is needed so road crews can wash and inspect two bridges, according to WSDOT.
The work begins
▪ Sunday, Feb. 23: All northbound lanes of I-5 at the Skookumchuck Bridge in Centralia will be closed down from 9:30 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.
▪ Monday, Feb. 24: All southbound lanes will close in the same area from 9:30 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday.
▪ Detour: Drivers will use the off- and on-ramps at Exit 82 for Harrison Avenue in Centralia to get around the closure.
The work continues
▪ Tuesday, Feb. 25: One northbound lane of I-5 at the Cowlitz River Bridge near Toledo will be closed from 9:30 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday.
▪ Wednesday, Feb. 26: One southbound lane of I-5 at the Cowlitz River Bridge will be closed from 9:30 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday.
WSDOT officials ask that drivers slow down through work zones, stay focused, be patient, and follow the directions from road crews.
