An Olympia driver stuck and injured a Ferndale pedestrian on Interstate 5 in south Lewis County Thursday morning.

The collision occurred at 9:20 a.m. at milepost 59, near the Cowlitz River, according to a Washington State Patrol press memo.

The driver, a 69-year-old woman, was northbound in a black 2017 Lexis RX when the pedestrian ran into traffic. The driver struck the pedestrian with her car in the left lane.

First responders transported the pedestrian, a 33-year-old woman, to Tacoma General Hospital for treatment. The driver wore her seatbelt and was not injured in the collision. No other people were involved.

The memo lists, “pedestrian on the roadway” as the cause of the collision. It is not immediately clear why the pedestrian was on the roadway and no potential charges were included in the memo.
