Traffic congestion expected on Interstate 5 in Lacey Friday through Sunday. Here’s why
Weekend travelers on Interstate 5 in Lacey should expect slowdowns during overnight and morning hours starting Friday.
Road crews plan to close two right lanes on northbound I-5 between Carpenter Road and Marvin Road from Sept. 12-14, according to a Washington State Department of Transportation news release.
The closures will reduce the highway to one lane in the affected area from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday and 10 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday. WSDOT warns there will likely be congestion in the early morning hours as travelers approach the work zone and “significant” congestion during the late morning hours of Sunday.
Crews need to close lanes to make repairs to the roadway. WSDOT says travelers will likely see little to no activity in the work zone Sunday morning but the closures will remain in place to allow for concrete curing.
The public can review real-time information about closures, road work and traffic on the WSDOT app and its statewide travel map webpage.
