Olympia drivers to see lane closures and delays on US 101 this week, WSDOT warns
Travelers through Thurston County should prepare for lane closures on U.S. 101 this week so crews can clean the median and cut back vegetation.
According to an April 1 news release from the Washington State Department of Transportation, the left lane in both directions of U.S. 101 will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Tuesday, April 7, to Thursday, April 9.
The closures will allow crews to create a work zone so the Department of Ecology can pick up litter in the median. According to the release, WSDOT will also be cutting back vegetation during the lane closures.
The work will occur along a mile-long stretch of the highway each day, according to the release. Crews will start the work near Mud Bay Road Northwest and move south toward I-5 until the work is complete.
Travelers should expect delays and congestion around the work zones, according to the release. WSDOT encourages travelers to consider postponing discretionary trips, or to travel through the area before or after work hours to avoid delays.
The work is being done during the daytime when crews and travelers are more easily seen, according to the release.
