Motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries after Thurston County wreck
An intersection in south Thurston County was closed for more than an hour on Friday afternoon after a motorcyclist hit a pickup truck that pulled out in front of him on state Route 507, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Trooper Kameron Watts told The Olympian that units were dispatched to a motorcyclist down at 12:34 p.m. at the intersection of state Route 507 and Manke Road Southeast, between Rainier and Yelm.
Watts said a 43-year-old man was traveling southbound on the highway when a pickup truck attempting to cross on Manke Road pulled out in front of him. Watts said the motorcyclist did not have enough time to slow down, and he hit the front left of the truck.
Watts said the man had serious injuries from the collision. He said troopers and medical staff arrived on scene and performed life-saving measures, which were successful. Watts said the man was transported to a local hospital. A WSP news release later identified the motorcyclist as a 43-year-old Olympia man. The driver of the pickup truck, later identified by the WSP as a 58-year-old Yelm man, was cited for failing to yield to a motor vehicle.
Drugs or alcohol were not involved, according to the WSP news release. The cause of the wreck is still under investigation.
