Hiker spends 30 hours trapped in a hot tub in remote Oregon forest, rescuers say
An Oregon man was rescued after being trapped in a hot tub for more than 30 hours at Bagby Hot Springs, police said.
The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office rescue team responded to a report on Jan. 22 of someone who had fallen ill while in the hot springs, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.
“The subject just stated he was too weak to get out,” Marcus Mendoza, spokesman for the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, told the Statesman Journal. “He waited there until he was rescued and in good spirits was transported to a hospital for treatment. He wasn’t in distress and they were able to basically load up and pack him out.”
Police said 25 members of the team arrived and helped get the man out of the tub, “packaged him up,” and brought him down the trail for medical attention, according to police.
Bagby Hot Springs is part of Mount Hood National Forest and has water from hot springs that flows into bathtubs, the Statesman Journal reported.
“If you are out and about recreating and you see someone from search and rescue, tell them ‘thanks,’” a sheriff’s deputy said on the department’s Facebook post. “They volunteer their time to help rescue people injured or lost in the outdoors.”
