19-year-old falls hundreds of feet to his death from top of Oregon peak, rescuers say

A 19-year-old man fell hundreds of feet on an Oregon mountain and was later pronounced dead by rescuers, reports say.

Todd Adelman of Aumsville, Oregon, was climbing Three Fingered Jack, a popular spot for experienced and technical mountaineers, this weekend, according to The Oregonian. On Sunday afternoon, witnesses saw rocks fall beneath Adelman, causing him to fall from the mountain’s summit, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

Multiple agencies responded to the call and worked through the night to find Adelman, according to KTVZ. They found his body at the bottom of a cliff, the sheriff’s office said.

The mountain is “known to have poor rock quality and steep cliffs near the summit,” according to the sheriff’s office.

“This is an advanced mountaineering climb with vertical walls at the top and very poor rock,” the AllTrails website says.
