Could you survive a ‘digital detox’ for $1,000? Utah tech company is willing to pay
Sitting at home for work, school and entertainment during the coronavirus pandemic has sent some of our screen times soaring.
So if you’re interested in putting down the technology and picking up some cash, a Salt Lake City company has a deal for you.
SatelliteInternet.com is offering people the chance to earn $1,000 for going on a ‘digital detox’ for 48 hours, the company’s website says. A digital detox involves taking time away from devices like smartphones, TVs, computers and tablets and from social media.
The company is looking for a “weekend warrior,” someone who is eligible to work in the U.S., at least 25 years old and legally licensed to drive in any state to detox for a weekend by camping in an RV at a national park without using technology, the company’s website says. The subject will receive $400 upfront and the rest once the 48 hours are up.
The candidate will rent an RV, which the company will reimburse them for, then choose a campsite and a date to start. On the third night, the person will use a mobile hotspot or find available Wi-Fi to share the adventure online.
If you meet the criteria, you can apply by filling out a form on SatelliteInternet.com. The company will randomly choose a winner on Sept. 23 at 11:59 p.m. MDT and the person must accept the challenge within a week of the selection.
