Beer brewed from doughnuts? Dunkin’ partners with brewery for two new flavors

Sure, you may love doughnuts. And yeah, you may love beer. But what about doughnut-infused beer?

It’s on its way thanks to Dunkin’ and Harpoon Brewery, which partnered to make two beers brewed from doughnuts, the companies announced Tuesday.

They’re the first beers ever to be brewed from Dunkin’ doughuts and are slated to hit shelves this fall.

One is a Dry Irish Stout called Harpoon Dunkin’ Boston Kreme, which is brewed with doughnuts and cacao nibs to “add extra dough-like and chocolatey notes,” the companies said. It’s 4.3% ABV.

The other is an IPA called Harpoon Dunkin’ Jelly Donut, brewed with doughnuts and raspberry purée, which features “bright notes of jelly and citrus from the addition of fruit-forward Hüll Melon and Citra hops.” It’s 5.7% ABV.

The new doughnut beers will be available in 6-bottle packs and on draft in September, the company said.

The two beers will also be a part of the Harpoon Dunkin’ Dozen pack, which will include three cans of each, along with three cans of its two other seasonal offerings: the new Harpoon Dunkin’ Pumpkin — described as a “Spiced Latte Ale” with pumpkin pie spices and a touch of espresso at 5.2% ABV — and the fan-favorite Harpoon Dunkin’ Coffee Porter.

Harpoon’s Dunkin’ Coffee Porter was released last fall as a “tribute to Dunkin’ coffee” featuring notes of chocolate, caramel and toffee. It’s 6% ABV.

“We’re excited to elevate our collaboration with Harpoon this fall with the introduction of Harpoon Dunkin’ Pumpkin beer and the first ever Harpoon beer made with real Dunkin’ doughnuts,” Brian Gilbert, vice president of Dunkin’ retail business development, said in the news release.

Harpoon CEO Dan Kenary called the new doughnut beers “a first.”

“Our brewers have always been master innovators, but brewing beer made with real donuts was a first even for them,” he said. “It’s hard to pick a favorite of the four recipes – just like it’s hard to pick a favorite donut from Dunkin’ – but we hope both our and Dunkin’s fans have a blast trying.”
