A 9-month-old puppy needed to be rescued after plunging off a steep California cliff, rescuers said.

The border collie fell Tuesday, Nov. 16, from a cliff off Ocean Boulevard in Moss Beach, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection unit in Santa Cruz said.

Officials told CBS San Francisco the puppy fell 40 feet down the steep cliff.

“The pup fell off the cliff, but was uninjured,” officials said on Twitter. “Always keep your dogs on a leash near the cliffs.”

Rescuers used a pulley system to hoist the dog to safety, photos show.

Moss Beach is about 23 miles south of San Francisco.
