After purchasing a $10 lottery ticket, one Michigan man was stunned to realize that he’d won the top prize for the game, lottery officials announced.

The Wayne County man bought his ticket for Michigan Lottery’s Lucky 7’s Instant Game at a gas station after a day of work, state lottery officials wrote in a news release.

“I usually stop to buy a lottery ticket on my way home from work and scratch it when I get home,” the 43-year-old player told lottery officials.

He scratched the ticket, only to find he’d won the advertised top prize of $2 million.

“When I realized I’d won $2 million, I immediately started crying. I kept looking the ticket over because I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” the anonymous player said.

The man called a family member to help him confirm his good luck, or to snap him out of a great dream.

“I called my brother and said: ‘Can you come over? I think something is wrong with my eyes!’ It took a while for it to sink in and the next several days felt like a dream,” he told lottery officials. “A few days after winning, I thought: ‘Well, I either really won $2 million or this is a long dream!’”

The player chose to receive the prize all at once and took home $1.2 million. He told officials he plans on paying off his home, buying property in Northern Michigan and investing with his winnings.

“Winning is an overwhelming feeling. It is a gift that came at the perfect time,” he said.
