His attorney did not immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for comment.
Bowie is accused of using social media to ask and receive sexual photos from a minor he had met at a high school basketball camp in Douglas County, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of Oregon said in a news release.
He was the head coach of the men’s basketball team at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, the release states. He’s also an educational assistant at Hall Elementary School in Gresham.
Bowie has been put on administrative leave at the community college, according to Jessica Roberts, a spokesperson for the school.
The elementary school did not immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for comment.
Prosecutors said he threatened the girl with the photos she sent him, demanding she sent more or he would share her images.
He also talked about meeting her in person, prosecutors said.
Bowie’s next court hearing will be on March 18.
