Couple gets stuck down 60-foot embankment while chasing dog, Washington officials say

A couple’s dog went 60 feet over an embankment, Washington officials said.

When they tried to rescue the pet, they got stuck themselves.

The Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue team rushed to help the couple on Wednesday, June 1. The husband and wife were stuck halfway down the embankment in Poulsbo, according to rescuers.

Rescuers helped the woman down the rest of the embankment safely.

The man, however, was in a trickier location. Rescuers couldn’t initially tell if he should be lowered or raised to safety.

Officials created a system to rappel down the embankment to the man’s location.

Both the man and woman were rescued off the embankment and were not injured.

The dog died after going over the embankment, rescuers said.

Poulsbo is about 20 miles northwest of Seattle.
