Teen accidentally shoots and kills man in car outside Chick-fil-A, Georgia cops say

A 16-year-old is charged in a deadly shooting after accidentally firing a gun in the parking lot of a Chick-fil-A, authorities in Georgia say.

The incident occurred just after 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, outside the restaurant on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Atlanta, according to the city’s police department.

Authorities said the teen was in a car with a man when he “negligently” fired a gun, hitting the 21-year-old victim. Both had eaten at the restaurant shortly before the shooting, WXIA reported, citing police.

The accused shooter ran away on foot, the station said. The injured man was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, authorities said.

The teen, who wasn’t named, spoke with detectives the next day and was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter, according to a news release.

Authorities said there were five people in the car at the time, three of whom stayed behind to talk with police, WXIA reported, citing Maj. Peter Malecki. No one else was hurt.

Additional details about the incident weren’t immediately available.

It marks the second deadly shooting at the restaurant in less than two weeks, WSB-TV and WAGA reported.
