One man has been arrested after police say he opened fire on two caseworkers performing a welfare check.
Two Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services caseworkers were sent to a home in Lincoln on Tuesday, Sept. 26 around 4 p.m., according to KLKN.
The two were standing in the front yard when police say 38-year-old Brent Lopez came out of the house and began firing multiple rounds from the porch, KOLN reported.
One of the caseworkers, a 28-year-old man, was shot in the leg, according to KETV. He’s expected to recover.
Two days prior to the shooting, Lopez was cited by police for assault after they say he got into a fight with a group of teenagers and punched two girls, KLKN reported.
A YouTube video posted Sept. 26 shows an officer at Lopez’s home to perform a welfare check on the kids. The officer is heard saying the mother of his children called police after Lopez’s incident with the teenagers.
In the video, Lopez says he was in danger and has received death threats from the “angry mob” since the reported confrontation.
“The media’s got me on as beating up a bunch of kids at the rec center when I was getting jumped,” Lopez said.
Later that day, the two caseworkers showed up to the home and Lopez began firing, police said, according to KLKN.
The other caseworker was not injured in the shooting, KOLN reported.
Lopez was charged with assault on an officer and use of a firearm to commit a felony, according to KETV.
