FDA Commissioner Marty Makary has resigned, with Deputy Commissioner Kyle Diamantas taking over leadership of the agency in an acting capacity, Reuters reported Tuesday via Politico.

The leadership change comes at a sensitive time for federal health policy, as Makary and the FDA faced scrutiny over drug approvals, vaccine oversight and regulatory direction. Diamantas is expected to guide the agency through the transition while the White House weighs a permanent nominee, with decisions likely to affect drugmakers, public health agencies and consumers nationwide.

Diamantas currently serves as the FDA's deputy commissioner for human foods, overseeing nationwide food safety and nutrition policy and acting as a key liaison between the agency, the Department of Health and Human Services and the White House.
