WASHINGTON - Democrat Rebecca Bennett emerged from a highly competitive primary on Tuesday to take on Republican U.S. Representative Thomas Kean in the November general election in New Jersey's seventh congressional district, U.S. media projected.

Kean, who has been absent from Congress with an undisclosed medical issue since early March, ran unopposed in the primary in the swing district.
