Sign wavers continue string of protests to send messages to President Trump, GOP
Nearly 2,000 people worried about the actions and impact of Donald Trump’s presidency continued what has become an every-other-Saturday string of protests at the Capitol Campus in Olympia.
Saturday’s event was more of a street party than an organized rally — no speakers addressed the crowd like they did April 5 on the Legislative Building steps.
Instead, many spent most of their time waving signs at passing vehicles along Capitol Way. A steady stream of vehicles honked in support.
Others who attended sang and chanted with organized groups of musicians and drummers.
Still others simply made the rounds, snapping photos and showing appreciation for signs both profound and profane.
Some organizations set up tents around the Capitol Campus, providing information about ways to protest or lend a hand. Some set up chairs where the many older rally participants could rest.
The Easter weekend timing of the gathering might have kept attendance lower than at the April 5 protest. But it also gave some sign wavers inspiration for their message.
