Thurston County’s elected officials to be sworn in Dec. 29

U.S. Rep. Denny Heck is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech during the swearing-in ceremony for Thurston County’s newly elected and re-elected officials.

The public event will begin at 2 p.m. Dec. 29 at South Puget Sound Community College’s Minnaert Center for the Arts, 2011 Mottman Road SW, Olympia.

According to the Auditor’s Office, about 60 South Sound officials, including mayors, city and town council members, fire commissioners, school board members and cemetery district commissioners, won seats in the Nov. 3 general election.

Among those who will be sworn in are Port of Olympia commissioner Joe Downing; Lacey City Council members Jason Hearn, Lenny Greenstein and Jeff Gadman; Olympia Mayor Cheryl Selby; Olympia City Council members Jessica Bateman and Nathaniel Jones; Tumwater City Council members Nicole Hill, Tom Oliva, Joan Cathey, Eileen Swarthout and Neil McClanahan; Tenino Mayor Wayne Fournier; North Thurston School Board members Marcia Coppin, Graeme Sackrison and Dave Newkirk; Olympia School Board members Joellen Wilhelm, Frank Wilson and Justin Montermini; and Tumwater School Board members Kim Reykdal and Jay Wood.

Port of Olympia Commissioner E. J. Zita already was sworn in because she is filling an unexpired term, but she plans to attend the ceremony.
