Ballots available, drop boxes open in Thurston County for Feb. 8 school levy elections
More than 90,000 ballots have been mailed to voters for the Feb. 8 special election, the Thurston County Auditor’s Office has announced.
The ballots were sent to registered voters in the Olympia, Griffin, Tumwater and Tenino school districts. The districts are asking voters to approve additional property tax levies. Here are the details:
Olympia School District: The district is asking voters to approve a replacement levy that would be used for computer technology systems and other capital project expenditures to improve safety and energy sustainability. The levy rate would be between 92 cents and 98 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value between 2023 and 2026.
Griffin School District: The district is asking voters to approve a levy that would be used for school property improvements, capital projects and technology. The levy rate would be 43-45 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value in 2023 and 2024.
Tumwater School District: The district is asking voters to approve a replacement levy to continue support for capital improvements, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, safety and security systems, energy efficiency/site improvements, and improve instructional technology equipment and infrastructure. The levy rate would be 75 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value between 2023 and 2026.
Tenino School District: The district is asking voters to approve a replacement levy for safety, technology and school improvements, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, safety and security systems, energy efficiency/site improvements, and improve technology equipment and infrastructure. The levy rate would be $1.11 per $1,000 of assessed property value from 2023 to 2026.
Any registered voter who thinks they should have received a ballot but hasn’t by Wednesday, Jan. 26, should contact the Auditor’s Office at 360-786-5408 or elections@co.thurston.wa.us.
A list of 19 secure ballot drop-off locations and addresses is included with mailed ballot materials and can also be found online.
Ballots for military and overseas voters registered in Thurston County were mailed on Jan. 7, according to the auditor’s news release.
Ballots must be postmarked by Feb. 8, and voters are advised to check mailboxes for pickup times to ensure their ballot will be postmarked by Election Day. No stamp is needed, and drop boxes will be open until 8 p.m. Feb. 8.
Thurston County residents can register to vote, get a replacement ballot, and vote in person at the Voting Center at 2400 Evergreen Park Drive SW.
