The Washington state primary election on Aug. 2 is less than a week away. Washingtonians will vote on candidates for the U.S. Senate and House, Washington State Supreme Court, Washington Secretary of State, state legislature and other judicial offices.

Over 1,000 candidates are running for office across the state. Depending on where in the county they live, Thurston County residents will vote in either Congressional Districts 3 or 10 for their U.S. representative and Legislative Districts 2, 19, 20, 22 or 35 for state representatives.

As of July 1, there were 194,605 residents registered to vote in Thurston County and just under 4.8 million registered voters statewide, according to the Secretary of State’s office.

The deadline to register to vote online for the election on Aug. 2 has already passed, but it is possible to register in person through election day, which ends at 8p.m.

But for those who plan to register on election day, out of the 33 locations to cast your vote in Thurston County, only two are in-person voting centers that allow you to also register in person — the other 31 locations are drop box locations for those who received a ballot in the mail and voted at home.

Voter registration status can be found at VoteWA.gov by entering your full name and birth date.

The two in-person voting locations are at the Lacey Library, 500 College Street SE in Lacey, and the Thurston County Elections Office, 2400 Evergreen Park Dr. SW in Olympia. Anyone who is a registered voter in Thurston County can vote at either location.

Each county in the state also allows in-person voting at the county election office. Thurston County’s election office is in Olympia, at the 2400 Evergreen Park Dr. SW voting location.

For those who opt to vote at home, the recommended last day to mail a ballot was July 26. Now through when voting closes on Aug. 2 at 8p.m., the recommendation is to drop your ballot off at one of the 31 drop boxes around Thurston County. That includes locations in Bucoda, Lacey, Olympia, Rainier, Rochester, Tenino, Tumwater and Yelm.
